This weekend we went to the great exciting city of Boise ID. I had some time off work and since we couldn't ever decide where we wanted to go we just decided to check out Boise. We made the 3.5 hour drive up there and checked into our hotel. Then we met up with Jon and Cherie and girls (my cousins) who took us to the bird of prey exhibit. They had some really crazy birds there both alive and stuffed.
I'm checking out my wingspan... guess I have a long way to go. After the exhibit we went to downtown Boise and checked out an old train depot (sort of a replica which is now just used to parties etc) that overlooked the entire city.
Pretty cool right? Then we got to meet up with Casey and Candi (other cousins Cherie's younger brother) at the Boise fry company which was my kind of restaurant. Not so much in that it was burgers and fries but because they had a huge sauce bar and 6 or 7 different kinds of fries. I love food that I can get lots a small amounts of lots of different kinds of things. I love variety in my food especially when it involves lots of sauce options.
Those three little sauces on my tray were just three of like 8. Brandon and I both got buffalo burgers which I loved and Brandon thought was good but he would stick with beef. I knew that was going to happen from the get go but it was fun to try it anyway. My favorite combo were the yukon gold fries with a chipoltle mustard type sauce and the sweet potato fries with a marshmallow maple sauce. Little Karina didn't even eat her fries because she was too busy feeding them to her parents. It was pretty funny. after that we went to Jon and Cherie's for amazing Italian sodas and Passion Fruit mousse and Lava cakes. These guys are serious about Italian Sodas. They had full bar of flavors and I drank way too many. We were definitely stuffed with good food. Next day Brandon and I got up and went to the capitol building and were surprised that we could actually go in. I'm so glad we did because it was one of the coolest ones I've seen.
I guess that was a silly statement because I really haven't seen very many capitol buildings. In fact I've now seen three, the Utah, Idaho and DC capitol..... well fine it was really really cool out of the 3 I've seen ha ha. We also got to go into the gallery sitting of the senate and congress wings and it was really cool. I always get very humbled when I'm in places like that because as flawed as politics are its still just so amazing to see where they take place and realize how great they really are. After the capitol we went to the Anne Frank Human Rights memorial which was sort of a fountain (in the summer) with sitting areas and freedom or human rights quotes carved into stones all around. It was very cool but sad at the same time just because it reminds you of all the injustices in the world. After that we checked out the discovery center which were three rooms with nothing but hands on science exhibits. It was great fun for nerds such as Brandon and I. Then we went for awesome dinner and games at Casey and Candi's house. We went swimming at the hotel and sadly discovered that hotel swimming really isn't as exciting as it used to be. the next day we were treated to stuffed french toast and pancakes at Jon and Cherie's with Passion Fruit syrup. Its so funny that even though we haven't seen the Despain cousins in a long time we can still be so much alike. We had an absolute blast hanging out with them and their fun kids. We definitely want to go back because Boise is a really nice town. Its big but not too big and it was very clean. A welcome change from the not so grand city of Pocatello. Did I mention were actually very happy here its just the town is not the greatest. Its just sort of run down and there's not much to do close by. Oh well. I also got moved over to the new accounts desk at work which has been good. I still float as a teller and help out where needed but I'm mostly doing new accounts right now. Other than that everything is going great here. Thanks Despains for a great weekend.
